APPLICATION INFORMATION
Applications for our electrical apprenticeship program are accepted online at anytime. If you have questions, please call us at 337-433-7277 during office hours, which is 8am - 4:00pm. Once you begin an online application, you will have 90 days to complete it.
The following documents are required in order to accept and process your application. No exceptions.
Note: If you do not already have a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential Card), it is highly recommended that applicants take the steps necessary to obtain one immediately. Many of our apprentices are assigned to industrial contractors who require them, and it can take several weeks - sometimes months - to be approved and receive your TWIC card. While we don't require that you have one to qualify for our program, you will certainly want one in order to maximize the number of on-the-job apprenticeship opportunities available to you once you are accepted. More information about obtaining a TWIC card will be available during New Apprentice Orientation, but serious applicants are encouraged to take the initiative to obtain one sooner rather than later.
aptitude testing
We have updated our aptitude test policy. We will no longer be testing applicants before their interview. Only those who are accepted into the program will be scheduled for an aptitude test during the summer or beginning of the school year. Scores are only used to determine who may need help or extra support with class assignments.
We recommend that our applicants utilize ElectricPrep, a website that provides voluntary online courses specifically crafted for individuals who want to practice their math and reading comprehension skills before taking the aptitude test. Courses offered include a mathematics refresher, reading comprehension and an introduction to the electrical industry. However, there is a fee involved (which we do not see a penny of it). If you can't afford these prep courses, we recommend that individuals prepare themselves for the math portion of the aptitude test by utilizing Khan Academy's free math course for Algebra 1. ElectricPrep will also prepare you for the apprenticeship oral interview, which is the most important component of the application process. Most interviews take 10 - 20 minutes. It gives our training committee an opportunity to evaluate your ability to communicate clearly and answer questions thoughtfully, assess your capabilities in communication and find out how you have handled situations in the past that are relevant to occupational success.
