ELECTRICAL APPRENTICESHIP

Picture
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 861, in partnership with the Lake Charles Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association, proudly sponsors the Lake Charles Area Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (LAJATC). The LAJATC provides the most comprehensive electrical journey worker and apprentice training program in the region.

The LCJATC has properly trained thousands of men and women to become highly skilled professional journey worker electricians for nearly 76 years in Louisiana. As a result, these individuals enjoy the benefits of being part of this extraordinary and exciting industry, including:

  • Competitive wage rates
  • Paid health insurance
  • A lifelong career with continuing education
  • Safer working conditions
  • Advancement opportunities
  • Guaranteed retirement benefits

What is apprenticeship?

The LCJATC provides the ultimate "earn while you learn" apprenticeship training program. As an apprentice, you will be assigned to one of our electrical contractors, earning a progressively increasing hourly wage (plus benefits) as you successfully gain more skills and technical knowledge in the electrical industry.

This is a rigorous four-year in-depth post-secondary electrical training program. Apprentices are provided on-the-job training during the day and attend class two nights per week to learn the required electrical concepts, theories, and applications necessary to develop apprentices into top performing journey workers and professional union members.  Our apprentices also earn a Continuing Education Certificate of Completion through SOWELA Technical Community College.

Upon graduation, apprentices become full-fledged journey workers and earn nationally recognized certifications that make them eligible to work out of any local IBEW union across the country.

The LAJATC accepts applications year-round, and starts a new class of apprentices every August. It is a competitive application process, so we encourage all applicants to take advantage of the information and resources provided here to maximize your chances of being accepted into the program.
