CONSTRUCTION WIREMAN & CONSTRUCTION ELECTRICIAN

Picture

IBEW BUSINESS STARTUP LEVEL 1

The Lake Charles Electrical JATC “Construction Wireman” and “Construction Electrician” (CW/CE) classifications each offer candidates working in the electrical trade, as well as new entrants into the industry, the opportunity to qualify to work, improve and progress as professional union electrical workers.

It also allows union signatory contractors to better provide superior, cost-effective electrical installations by filling the gaps between the IBEW’s apprentice and journeyman stages and expanding the IBEW workforce. The classifications help fulfill the needs and concerns of electrical contractors by better positioning them to capture market share – making IBEW signatory contractors more competitive than ever before.

The lcJATC classification system:

  1. Provides properly classified non-journey level workers at an appropriate pay level;
  2. Provides Local 861 with a means to responsibly recruit individuals – your potential employees – who have electrical experience;
  3. Provides a means to train additional apprentices and provide appropriate career paths for individuals based on personal qualifications; and
  4. Protects the integrity of our apprenticeship program and the journeyman classification, allowing us to provide you with the best-trained workforce available.

The CW/CE classifications enable signatory contractors to more effectively compete against the non-union sector – while also help the union electrical industry restock its labor workforce..

The classifications allow signatory contractors to modify crew mixes and use more workers who fit the CW/CE classifications. These are workers with intermediate abilities who don’t yet meet the criteria of the highly skilled qualifications or wage scale associated with the IBEW inside journeyman wireman, but who are competent for many electrical construction tasks.

All electrical workers with good work ethics and good attitudes can find a place in our industry and opportunities for advancement. Local IBEW-NECA Joint Apprenticeship and Training programs will provide training if workers’ skills need upgrading.
